Kami, "The way of the Gods" has been practiced for centuries. It is very much part of everyday life for the Japanese and is a long established crucial element of the country's culture. Shinto and Buddhism are the predominant religions. Shinto festivals still manifest in modern living and are spectacular events. Conversely Buddhism has no festivals or rites to match Shinto preferring simple pray and chanting.
